We invite you to take a quick tour of our facilities and you will see that Fortner Engineering and its personnel are exceptionally qualified to provide component MRO services which are second to none.

The first stage of any developmental repair begins with a thorough evaluation and inspection by our Engineering Department. For components determined to be repairable, the Engineering Department will utilize an extensive database including OEM overhaul manuals, service bulletins, manufacturing drawings and thousands of previous repairs, to design and create Component Processing Packages (CPP's). The CPP's include repair and test procedures, pertinent test fixture and/or component manufacturing drawings and other applicable documentation. All of these repairs are developed in accordance with our FAA-approved Engineering Standards Manual (FES81). Repairs determined to be 'major' are accomplished utilizing the expertise of Fortner's engineering staff and authorized by Fortner's in-house FAA-DER's. Prior to implementation, the Engineering staff will test the component to ensure design performance of the Component Processing Package.

The Engineering Department maintains a strong interface with Hydraulic Test and applies the latest technologies for a true "state of the art" facility. Some of the current instrumentation to validate the airworthiness of all repaired components are pressure, velocity and position transducers, precision voltage measuring and waveform generation devices, strip chart and x-y recorders and computer based data acquisition and testing equipment.

In support of Fortner's parts manufacturing arm, an on-staff Designated Manufacturing Inspection Representative (DMIR) performs Conformity Inspection for PMA parts and completes Airworthiness Approval Tags for Export.

The Engineering Department's strong working alliance with the other departments within our operation forges a "team" effort to assure the highest quality within the repair industry. Additionally, the Engineering staff is dedicated to "continuing education" by staying abreast of current engineering and technical literature and attending technical conferences and symposiums.

The heart of Fortner Engineering's ability to repair Lap Assemblies and Servos lies in the expertise developed and refined in the mating together of the various detail components of slide and sleeve type assemblies. These detail components are lapped to less than one micro inch finish and are straight, round and true within twenty millionths (.000020) if an inch. All assemblies must have a diametrical clearance between the mating components sufficient to meet the friction forces and the metering and leakage requirements of the next higher assembly. Most Lap Assemblies and Servos have a diametrical clearance of between fifty millionths (.000050) and three tenths (.0003) of an inch.

Fortner Engineering has six test stands, which are configured for Skydrol 500B4 hydraulic fluid. Five test stands can offer a hydraulic supply capability of 20 GPM at 3000 PSI and one stand will generate 55 GPM at 3000 PSI. All hydraulic components repaired and/or overhauled by Fortner are individually tested to assure meeting the Functional Test Requirements of the original specifications.
